ummm, none. What's wrong with deadlifts? I've never been terribly sure what the point of grippers was. Would someone like to offer enlightment?
Sure,
There's nothing wrong with deadlift it's a wonderful exercise. If you do double overhand grip deadlifts you can build support grip (holding onto a bar kind of grip). But this will not have a large carry over into crushing grip.
This is why you can take someone who can do a 700+ deadlift and more often then not they can't close a #3 gripper or a vice gripper.
I'll give you an example, last year at a power lifting event I brought a hand dynamometer(test crush grip in foot pounds). I could easily out squeeze everyone who tried it except for two people, with my left hand, and i'm right handed. If you saw the people who were trying it and you saw me, you might think that was impossible, since some of them were probably close to double my weight.
If you are applying force to an object that isn't 25mm and nicely knurled, the strength of your grip matters. If you can't hold onto something, you can't apply force regardless of how strong you are everywhere else. As most physical activities do not involve nicely knurled 25mm metal bars grip strength is important if you'd like to have functional strength.
Grippers are an effective and efficient way to train crushing grip, which is a major aspect of grip strength. Pinch and support grip being the other two aspects of grip strength.

Just ordered a few more from MuscleDriver.com. They are on sale, so I picked a few more up. I have about 10.
I use them a lot with my powerlifting team. I was surprised that their induction improved bench as well. One of those nice side benefits.
Full set of Heavy Grips.

Here's my HG500 that wasn't pictured.
It's a regular version (Non-LKB) #142. Nice collectors item.
