I read the sticky and I don't think this is a muscular injury.

The pain is very bad. It's the very base of the spine, the bit that ends at your ass (tailbone?).

When I first got it about 3 weeks ago, it wasn't that bad. Coincidentally I went on a 2 week holiday to visit some relatives the next day so I didn't do any lifting for that time. I reasoned that whatever the pain was it would be gone by the time I came back. When I came back this week to resume starting strength, with every squat or deadlift in each training sessions the pain got much worse, to the extent that it took me about 2 hours to do my workout on friday because it was so hard to make myself get under the bar and face the pain when squatting and deadlifting. I still made linear progression though.

I am now feeling pain there all the time, although it's much worse when I pick stuff up. What the hell is this and how do I make it go away so I can enjoy lifting again? If I keep lifting will it go away by itself?

I can't tell from here. Get it checked.
