I'm 18yrs old, 83kg, 6'3 and have stopped gains, which is because I'm not eating enough, In Australia its hard to do the gomad because we only get milk in 3 litres which is 3/4 of a gallon.

I'm gonna start buying 6 litres of milk every 2 days or so at work, but is there any other cheap bulk food that will get me to caloric excess?

I was thinking peanut butter+banana sandwiches, rice with tuna, macaroni and cheese, Greek yogurt + cottage cheese + honey + oats, and then there is dinner which are always big balanced meals and for breakfast i usually have egg sandwiches and cereal.

Ideally i'd be eating all that stuff every day, except i work almost everyday(I'm asking to get Tuesday and Thursday off every week to get to the gym and then i go before work on Saturday or Sunday).

So my question is, how do your trainees maintain 4-5k calorie a day diets with jobs or other other demands. I'm also trying to get back into Thai boxing one or two days a week, which is what i did before SS and is actually the reason i started doing SS, to gain weight and get stronger.

I can eat a lot, drink milk very easily, but my problem seems to be getting the time to do everything i want to do, go to the gym 3 times a week, eat enough to make gains and also continue with my other training while making enough money to pay for it all.

Thanks.

The biggest problem with being 18 is not yet really being able to accept the fact that you can't do everything you want to do. There are lots of folks on his board that will give you good advice on eating large calories for not much money. Milk is the best way to do this, despite your odd Australian logistical constraints. But mainly, you have to realize that time, recovery, and interest are finite resources.

The best thing about being 18 is that you're not 53.

2 x 2l cartons a day. What's the problem?

Rip, one of the best things about being 53 is profound wisdom like that. I just turned 25, I have an 8 week old son, a great wife, a great community of friends and family, I'm studying what I love, I love training, I'm a frustrated musician, and I'm always wanting to try something new. I've only just begun to come to terms with the fact that, for the sake of my relationships, my ability to be any good at anything, and my sanity, I can't do everything I want. Unfortunately, no amount of telling me 'you can't do everything you want' ever convinced me. It's only in the last year or so that I've actually begun to learn it. You, sir, have crystallized that growth for me.

Anyway, just sayin 'listen to this man'. He knows a lot about more than just barbell training.

I'm in Australia too and I'm not sure why you say you can only get milk in 3L bottles. I buy 2, 2L bottles everyday which works out just over a US gallon. Costs about $4.50 Put the milk into thermos flasks and take it to work with you.

Hey mate, I've gone from 78kg to 95kg this year (though my lifting was interrupted a lot by exams as it is now), I might be able to give you a few pointers in terms of food:

- Milk in 3L containers is the best value bulk food

- Meat is really cheap. If you shop around you can get $8/kg of rump steak and chicken breast for a similar price. Make it the staple of your diet.

- Cheap tuesday at dominos is your friend.

- I'm not going to advertise but WPC is extortion in Australia, but there are a couple of companies like bulk nutrition sell it in large quantities and wholesale. I'd recommend checking them out.

Note on gyms: gyms really suck in australia - I've deadlifted at one of the best gyms in Newcastle and it doesn't even have an even floor. I'd seriously recommend investing in a sumo rack if you have the money and space.

When you're pressed for time try a shake with whole milk, peanut butter, ice cream and protein powder. It's easy to ingest a ton of calories once they're in liquid form.

I'm a huge fan of waffles - more calories for about half the cost of malk.

The sammich is a critical tool for filling in the spaces between meals - so convenient to slap together. Chapters on sandwich construction should be in every book and periodical that's about fitness.

chocolate milk with a spoon full of peanut butter. add this to every glass of milk, and you will have the total calories of far over 1 gallon, even if you only drink 3 litres

Perhaps the calories aren't the only consideration here.

You need sandwich instructions?

I got this from 70sbig.com. Peanut butter and Nutella sandwich. A serving of each on some whole wheat should be at least 600 quick and cheap calories, plus a tall glass of milk andyou can easily hit a nice 1000 calorie snack. Do that twice a day and you already have 2k cals to supplement your normal meals.

I'm a big fan of heavy cream with protein powder, strictly because it's more portable than a gallon of milk. Options, lots of options.

I'm also 18, living in Australia, and poor.
For the past 18 months I've been drinking only 3L of milk everyday, yet I've still gone from 60kg (132lbs) to 104kg (230lbs). By buying a 3L bottle each day instead of two 2L bottles, I save about $30 each month. Make up for the missing 800mL of milk by eating a few extra bowls of oats each day. I'm able to stuff my face everyday for under $70 a week. Just buy cheap, no-name brand shit. I carry peanut-butter sandwiches in my pockets at work, and eat them them noone is looking. Also, find a friend who works at Mcdonalds, my flatmate is able to get me half-price food there after his shifts.

Good luck mate.

There's a terrible rumor going around that http://70sbig.com has some good info on eating. The archives of this board are useful too.
