Thought I would share my progress over 5 weeks following SS and eating a ton. Like most people I wanted to believe that a more complicated program was needed to make solid gains. I know neither the program or Rip needs any further evidence to support it but this is what happened...

Height/Weight
6ft
210lbs >>> 235lbs

All weights are for sets across except Dead’s

Started
Squat 308lbs
Bench 264lbs
Deadlift 440lbs
Power clean 176lbs

Finished
Squat 375lbs
Bench 289lbs
Deadlift 495lbs
Powerclean 220lbs

I found that though my muscles were able to recover my joints were struggling, especially my knees and lower back. I was eating loads and kept pushing my workouts when I should have listened to my body it resulted in injuring my back and having to take 4 weeks off from Squats and Deads. I am back squatting and deadlifting now and about to start another 4 week block. I will post some results if anyone is interested?

Rip if you could give me your thoughts I would be grateful. Even though I was still in novice stage with regards my continued ability for muscles to adapt to linear progression in the majority of the lifts my joints were not recovering and I need some added recovery. What are your thoughts on...

1. switch to an intermediate program to vary the volume and intensity through the week to allow more recovery and keep me in one piece. or

2. keep with the novice program but every 4th week deload to allow more recovery?

The 4 weeks I have missed have been a real set back when my training was flying and I don’t intend to make the same mistake again.

How old are you? You seem to be responding to this program like a masters lifter would.

Yes. Most guys your age don't have these kinds of inflammatory problems with their knees. Perhaps we'll get some suggestions.

I'm only 24, however have previous injuries to both shoulders from football in HS/College. I have to be pretty regimented in regards to multivitamins and fish oil caps. I know that when I slack off on these, my shoulders give me fits.

If you aren't already taking them, I would start.
