Coach Rippetoe:
Right now I'm doing presses 3 times a week per the SS program recommnedations and temporarily suspended becnch presses due to small rotaror cuff tear (2 millimeters) on my right shoulder's supraspinatus.
I wasted a lot of time doing rotator cuff isolation exercises which did nothing for my problem.
I made the mistake to completely eliminate the press while still doing some bench presse because of this small injury. As your book says (p. 152) this is a bad idea as I would cause shoulder muscles imbalances.
Yesterday after my last (3rd) set I felt some pain on my neck and today I still feel it although seems like the pain is diminishing.
I'm using valsalva maneuver per the SS suggestions which I also use on the squats, deadlift and bench press.
What would be one of the reasons someone injuries their neck when doing presses?
Thanks,
Roberto
