Roberto, the best way to know if you strained your adductor would be to adduct against resistance- it doing so provokes pain, it's probably an adductor

Regardless of what it is, I'd rest it until it improves. You should notice some gradual improvement over the next handful of days, but it may take a week or two to completely heal, depending on the severity of the injury.

Along the way it'd help to get some massage done on it.

If the above doesn't lead to marked improvement within 2 weeks I'd have it checked medically

Hello Charles:

I have been squatting for almost 4 years but last week I injured what I think is my right leg's adductor.

I just realized that I wasn't shoving out my knees enough when going deep so I guess my adductor muscles were not accustomed to that stress.

I watched some videos from Mark Rippetoe where he says that knees should be shoved out when going to the bottom.

To be more specific on the pain if I'm sitting on a chair on a normal position and try to lift my right leg while extending it, it hurts and if i rotate my right foot outwards it hurts more.

Does this sounds like an adductor injury? If so what would you recommend me to do?

Thanks,
Roberto

Greetings Mr. Staley,

I have a similar injury to the one described by Roberto. In my case, I feel pain if I try to lift my left knee when sitting on a chair. Yesterday I had no movement at all, today I can raise it but it feels very sore.
I have a question about your reply to Roberto. You write:

Assuming the injury is really a strain, and not a very acute tendonitis, what would be your opinion regarding some active recovery? I am thinking in particular to the Starr rehab protocol described elsewhere on this site.

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Honestly I would just rest it and if possible, find a good soft tissue therapist to get into that tissue for you. If it's a new injury, I'd also taken an anti-imflammatory and (depending on hoe superficial the strain is) possible ice it.

Again, with all things like this, there should be indications that's it's getting better day to day with rest. If it doesn't, it's likely a more serious injury and medical attention may be warranted

Thanks for your opinion.
The injury has indeed made very good progress in just two days, so hopefully it should not be anything too serious.

Many thanks again for your time.
