What is up with all the best of the decade lists? Don't they know that there are 10 years in a decade not 9?

Yes, people often forget that there was no year 0 AD.
Was the year 2000 the last year of the decade of the 1990s, last year of the century for the 1900's, etc? Hmmm...

Yes.
1AD - 100AD: first century.
1AD - 1000AD: first millennium
1001AD - 2000AD: second millennium.
All true, but the '80s mean 1980-1989, the '90s mean 1990-1999 and the '00s mean 2000-2009. They just do.

I miss the '80s.
While Bergie is absolutely correct, I refuse to count that shitty ass 1990 as part of my beloved '80s. The world sort of peaked in 1984 and things were already going down hill in '88. 1990 was just an embarrassing disaster that was a fitting start to that equally embarrassing decade.

I hope you're joking. I had just discovered Ninja Turtles and He-Man by then.

Modern consensus has dictated since the new millennium that we start to count at 00, so it's 2000-2009. The Gregorian Calendar only came about in 1588 anyway, and it's all arbitary.

The advert that changed my life, which I can't find, was a milk one. When I was 5 (1995) there was this milk advert of a little girl doing ballet & her bones were glowing through her skin & ever since then I've been drinking lots of milk & just as I was about to give up hope last year, I discovered SS & Rip & now my hope has been restored.

The 90s were the decade of Nintendo 64 and Nickelodeon. If that didn't make your decade, then you're insatiable

Ha, yes, I got Greyskull and Snake Mountain in Christmas 81 or 82! It was then that I realized there was no Santa because the castles has "Made in Taiwan" printed on them.:)

In my estimation, the '90s were the pinnacle of human achievement. We're in a downward spiral and "modern" society will be lucky survive the century.
