View Full Version : Elbow pain from PC
What's more likely the cause of my elbow/bicep pain?
Catching the drop/decent OR the bent elbows (coming off the floor with straight arms, but bending before the jump).

The PC shown is with 170 lbs, and is the 5th (last) set.
I'm 5'8 205lbs, up from 175 in Oct in case it's relevant.
I think the whole thing looks like shit, but only my elbow is hurting. At least for now.
Thanks for your time.

It doesn't look too bad to me, and the only thing I see that might contribute to elbow pain is that you are keeping your hands tight on the bar in the rack. This might be jamming your elbows a little. Is it possible that you actually hurt them when you squat?
I didn't notice the pain on the squat session the day before the PC in question. But the squat session today hurt like hell. I'll do a search on "elbow pain from squats" and compare what I find to my latest videos.
Thanks for the tip.
Pretty sure it's not the squat. Squat session this week was pain free with no conscious changes. PC session was interesting.
Went thru the rack, HPC, PC progression with light weight and no problems. Loaded to 135, still no problems, although I have to think hard to keep straight elbows in the 2nd pull, and loosing the wrists during the rack(I ditch the thumb and pinky during the rack).
However the work sets (175lb) didn't go so well. I'm pretty sure the elbows stayed straight, but I can't get my left wrist to release. The right one is doing fine, and that side racks correctly (I have some impact bruises on my right chest/delt/collarbone?).
I would describe the inability to control the left side while under load similar to trying to write cursive with the non dextrious hand.
Guess that motor pathway is not as established.
Thanks agian for your time on the orginal review and comments.

Odd. There is normally more neural crossover than that, in that when you learn something it gets learned by both sides simultaneously. Dunno on this.

Hi Jam,
I notice in your video that you always seem to land with your left foot behind. I wonder if that might be relevant.
Just as a speculation, stomping with your feet uneven might induce a slight rotation of your body, so that one shoulder might end up slightly behind the other. Or, in other words, your shoulders might not be parallel to the bar when you rack, and this might cause the elbows to work in a different way.

Are your forearms, biceps, triceps tight/sore? A lot of elbow pain comes from tightness in the muscles that move the elbow.

My guess would be it's because you do the negative portion of the lift. Hanging on to the bar when dropping cleans always hurt my elbows, the shock doesn't feel good. Looks like you already have bumpers, I'd invest in some mats for your floor and drop the cleans and snatches from the top. Oly lifts are not meant to have a negative portion to the lift.
