Hi Mark,

I've been reading your books on the treadmill this week. I notice you mention having both a messed up knee and a messed up back.

Are the accumulation of these injuries common for competitive lifters? Can they or should they be avoided by athletes? Much of what I read in the strength and conditioning articles emphasizes injury avoidance but I wonder if there isn't an inherent risk in lifting heavy shit on a regular basis.

I don't think I've seen you pontificate on this subject and am curious about how you feel about now as an old guy versus, as a coach, and as a competitor.

I've written about it quite a bit, most recently in MOMG from posts on this board.

There is an inherent risk of injury when falling off of horses, roofs, and hitting deer on motorcycles. This I have learned.

How can you run and read at the same time?
