What's your guys' opinion on drinking vitamin water (i.e. power-c, energy) before a workout?

I wouldn't bother with it. I used to drink it instead of soda, but I think you're better off with just plain water or juice.

I thinks its preferable to have it afterwards. Although they are not as sweet as coke or energy drinks they still have sugar which will be useful towards the end of your session.

Having it at the beginning might give you an insulin spike then sugar-downer.

Well, Vitamin Water has 10 KCal per serving. That's basically one packet of sugar. If that gives you an insulin spike and sugar-downer then you have some other issues to sort out.

In my opinion, 99.9% of all "energy drinks" are silly. If you want a little glucose (ie, energy) before the workout, just make some Ghetto Gatorade by diluting some OJ with water and a tiny pinch of salt. If you need a pick-me-up, then have some caffeine (ie, "energy") half-hour before the gym.

I spent way too long studying this crap for my phD exams -- happy to elaborate more if you have q's
