scrapple

you can get a pound of it for ~$1.60, and that's around 1040 calories per pound.

Cheap, dense and delicious :)

I looked it up and found out that it's most popular in the mid-atlantic area.

It's basically pork fat and pieces mixed in with spices. It's eaten by the Amish so it must be hearty.

Scrapple is something I've eaten at the homes of friends that have Depression-era grandmas who cook but it's not something I'd choose to eat. If we're talking by the pound, my bet is that oils will always be first and then nuts/nut butters will be next. They have the additional, desirable feature of not being made of lips and bungholes.

Someone replied to to thread in the Q&A about making a cake, but instead of baking it just drinking the batter as a big shake. Now that sounds calorie dense!

ETA: Was it Fluxboy?

He's busy trying to get 300lb. Last i heard. He'll probably be a big 70s fat guy in a few months if he's not already there.

I've always liked trail mix for this purpose. Nuts, raisins, M&M's; can't go wrong.

Peanut butter, man; over 3300 calories a pound.

Also chocolate milk.

As I said to Rory about Rip's GOMAD cult; milk is *better* than Kool-Aid. ;-)

Ive cooked scrapple from scratch, Its usually made with the pig head, you boil it a LOT and get all the meat and fat from the skull jowels etc which ands up beinmg quite a lot but mainly fat, then take that luid mixture and mix it with corn meal and spices into a thick cake that when cooled solidifies you can then cut it and pan fry it etc..

Its dense as hell very high in calories as its essentially fast and carbs and is damn good if you are ok with eating head which I have NO problem with.

Other dense food, sure fats of any kind are cheap and dense, the others are carbs simple ones, things that are easily digested and leave you looking for more. So damn many people are crab scared for NO reason, Sure those who dont train hard have NO need to be cramming that crap in their mouth but athletes training hard and burning the calories putting on weight especially the younger population eat UP.

peanut butter and dark chocolate is damn good and cheap

When the holiday's come around, Egg Nog is one of my favorites. Almost 800 cals/pint.

Anybody like indian food?

A biryani is excellent for calories. It is a rice based dish cooked in butter. You can put chicken, beef or mutton in it.

Calories are about 2000kcal a portion at least. Plus all the fat is saturated from the meat & butter.

Easy to eat loads of considering it is so delicious. I could probably do a recipe if somebody needs. The recipies you will find on the net are pussy versions. You need to use a fuckload of ghee (clarified butter) for it to work.

I guess we'll call them 70's big salmon cakes:

1 ~14 oz Can of Wild Alaskan Salmon
1 Cup Almond Meal
2 Eggs
Spices of your choosing
Olive oil or oil of your choice

Put the salmon in a mixing bowl and mash it up with a fork. I eat the bones for calcium and the skin for the good fats. Then add the almond meal and beaten eggs and seasonings. Mix it some more. Then make it into 3 patties and fry them in the oil about 4 minutes a side on medium to medium medium high heat.

I just take almonds and grind them in a coffee grinder, it gets the job done for cheaper than the almond meal I get at the grocery store. Trader Joes I hear has almond meal cheap.

A can of salmon is like 720 cal w/ 72g protein and some good fats, more fats from the almonds, and more from the olive oil. Its a lot of fat and a fair amount of protein.

Its real good and will get rid of a desire to eat a bunch of crap fried foods. I'll usually slather them with some thai hot chili mayo as a sauce. Best way I've found to ingest canned salmon outside of salmon 'tuna salad'.

A couple of ones I've used:

Coconut milk. It's about 800 cals a can, and fairly tasteless. I use it to make oatmeal in instead of water.

Putting oil in shakes. Make a shake, and pour a few tablespoons of oil into it. Difference isn't much, and it's another 400 calories.

I'd slice meat into fairly thin strips and pan fry it in butter. I'd then slather it in butter and BBQ sauce.

My weight gain shake:

1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 cup ice cream
1/2 cup peanut butter (smooth)
1/4 cup olive oil
2 scoops protein powder
whole milk to change consistency.

Blend. It's a big calorie bomb. It's about 2700 calories, I drank one of those every day or two and it helped me out. Tastes pretty light too, I got to the point where I could drink most of it at once but usually I'd split it up into two chunks. On days where I was being creative, I'd throw in some strawberries.

Just some ideas to add to the pile.
