I've just noticed the separation of the training section into several sub-forums, along with the separate journals.

Does the site really need that kind of specialization at this stage? The daily thread-traffic seemed about right to have both "general training discussion" and the logs all wrapped up in one section each.

With everything spread out like that, it's harder to navigate through unless you just read by "new posts".

Just curious as to the reasoning behind it is all.

Agree'd.

Having lots of specific forums is generally wise in proportion to the amount of traffic/posts you get. Huge boards warrant this kind of specialization because it becomes difficult to find what you're looking for with lots and lots of activity.

I do hope that startingstrength.com gets there, but at the moment, the traffic is probably not so high as to warrant this sort of division, imho. I think the easiest setup at this point are separate forums for Mark's Q&A stuff, General Training stuff, Logs, and Off Topic.

It may not warrant it now, but it is a heck of a lot easier to organize the existing threads while the count is low.

Yeah, isn't specialization for insects?

Organization != Specialization

Meh, I'd say the training only really needed two subs. General Training and Form Check. Form Check definitely needs it's own subforum. The others, not so sure.

I like it. Hopefully there will be more interesting training/programming discussions now since everything won't be as concentrated and filled with form checks.

I suppose it doesn't matter so much now. I usually just click the "new posts" button at the top anyway.

Ye, not crazy about massive segregation. Playing Where's Waldo is agony.

Have you not heard the howls and whining for a "nutrition" forum? *shudder*? Bitching about the endless "form checks"? Complaining about having to sift through pages of logs? Not that this was up for direct vote, but you have No Idea. None.

All the areas are quite broad and not "specialized" at all: Training, Programming, Technique, Recovery. Perhaps none of you remember all the divisions on SM? That was excessive. This is not.

This is also not some police state board. It's not like you have to get all worked up about whether or not you're in the right place when you post. It Will Be Fine. Calm down.

Hugs all around.

I'm happy with these sub-sections, but I will take one of those hugs.

I really really preferred it the old way.

I just noticed it and was about to write to some mods to share my disgust :o

I came from using stronglifts and their forum for a whole year, they have so many redundant illogical categories. They were all pretty much overlapped or were useless. People ALWAYS make a new post about any issue, never ever searching. It is totally impossible to find things due to excessive useless categories and the poor self-restraint of thread creation.

When I found the forum here I was delighted at the no-frills simplicity. All substance and no crap.

Seeing this splitting of categories is a sad event for me, I can just imagine it turning into the awfulness of stronglifts. What next, banners for fat-loss schemes?

Please please do not let this turn into a forum with a diet & styling section.

A perfect balance of awesomeness. This was a role model to others.

Separating form checks may be useful. But labelling it technique encourages people to discuss everything technique related in there. Technique covers a large portion of general training so it removes from the training thread and makes things less clear.

Making programming separate is just ridiculous. What will be left for the general training thread that doesnt fall into technique, recovery or programming ?

Training and programming do seem redundant, and the form check subforum might be labeled a bit too subtle:

> Training
> Form Check
> YOU'RE NOT EATING ENOUGH

And Rip's a bit of a dick sometimes too, do you think we can get him to be a little nicer?

We should get rid of him and get Mike Boyle instead.

I was getting a little tired of the endless form checks, but didn't say anything. Didn't mind that all the logs were all mixed together, but I see the sense in segregating them a bit if only not to have 10 pages of logs, half of which are defunct.

All in, I also see the sense in making some sensible divisions early and before there are millions of posts to sort later.
