Ahahaha... not exactly helping the whole "lunk" stereotype is he? Eh, it was bound to happen at some point. The policy is fucking retarded, but if you join a Planet Fitness you know what you are getting, right? I mean, if you are standing underneath the "lunk alarm" sign, don't be shocked when the fucker goes off while you are grunting doing your bicep curls.

I want to deadlift in one of these places and let that fucker hit the floor hard.

WTF is this 'lunk alarm' ?
Someone was telling me about this roid raging powerlifter who also had violent mental problems. He owned a gym but it was getting repossed, but he totally flipped and locked himself in the place.
It took a whole crew of geared up riot police to get him out, he was throwing all the weights and equipment at them. Being very strong, these was heavy stuff.

Thats hilarious, I've never imagined a policy as stupid as this could possibly exist.

"Judgment Free Zone" my butt. I think I would be judged if I did my routine at this joke for a gym.

I would like to one day consider myself one of the Power Lifting Battle Ogres mentioned in the article.
I wish I could get mad enough to throw crap all over the gym. That little girl probably had to change her panties after that guy left.

From the link that City already posted:
http://www.ruthlessreviews.com/884/planet-fitness-no-judgment-day/
Planet Fitness is an absurd juxtaposition of health coupled with the very laziness that undermines it. In the end, this isn’t about their retarded mission statement; it’s about the hypocrisy that penetrates every facet of our lives. Everything is tending toward lowered expectations, thus making the previous low standard the new high. We live in a world where “your personal best” is what you strive for when, in truth, your personal best fucking sucks.
Word.

In retrospect, he couldn't been curling that heavy if he could throw it like that.
Edit: I beat you on that link many posts ago, Gary.

That was fucking awesome. That guy is my hero. Too bad he didn't shatter the mirror when he threw the dumbbell; that would have been epic.

I don't understand, is that not appropriate behavior for the gym?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's gay as shit, but if a privately owned company wants to make some retarded rules, and then you sign a contract in which you agree to abide by those rules, don't you think having a childish outburst or, worse, destroying their property is a bit uncalled for? Why aren't we making fun of the dipshit who signed up at the gym in the first place and then had a tissy fit in response to a teenage girl wearing a pink hat?

While the rule sucks, it doesn't give the right to break stuff that is not yours. Slamming a deadlift just to fuck them, sure, but don't throw a dumbbell at a mirror.

That was a funny video, and an even better article. I agree with everything that guy said, even the depressing parts about why we go to the gym.

Thats probably the most terrifying thing I've ever seen. High point? The reporter saying at the end that the reason she wanted to do this specific report was because she was walking on a treadmill or something, heard someone drop a barbell behind her, and she turned and looked and almost fell off her treadmill. An almost Darwin award.
And this whole thing just makes me wanna build my own home-gym.

Lunk Alarm... the next step in ridiculousness would be instituting a local Lunk Police in the gym. When the alarm sounds, the Lunk Police squad storms out of their hidden backroom, clad in their amazing tight-fitting purple uniforms. They will quickly surround you and demand that you change your behavior. When you throw a fit of indignation and shove them away b/c they're "up in yo face", they'll whip out their flimsy purple rubber riot shields and beat you with long floppy purple riot noodles (the kind you find in the kid's swimming pools). But since you've been training your press and are stronger than the average bear, you will have no problem doing whatever you feel like with them. Many lives will be sacrificed to protect the No Judgement Zone. All the while, someone will be videotaping this altercation for youtube b/c it will be epic and full of lulz.
The Lunk Police is needed to deal with extraordinary threats to the No Judgement Zone... people like the one in that youtube video.

I think some one should convince Louie Simmons and his boys from Westside to sign up for Planet Fitness and try it out.
It' be real funny if that dude left some of his shit in the locker room and returned later to get it back. I bet he'd feel like a real asshole.
I'd like to think that was staged, or done intentionally. Somebody decided they wanted to be on the internet. The rules over at Planet Fitness are very clear(ly retarded), and that guy had to have known what he was getting into.

Not that this excuses the guys behavior, or that it was even the case here, but I do know PF often times buys an existing gym and converts it to a PF facility. When this happens they usually also continue the memberships of existing members. This happened in my town when they bought a Gold's Gym which many very strong guys trained. There ended up being a gradual exodus of the serious lifters as time went on and they realized their gym was no longer what they wanted. But think about how attached you are to your facility if it's actually a place you love training at. Then imagine some douche bags come in and paint everything purple and yell at you for working hard. Again, doesn't mean you toss dumbells around and scare petite women, but I'm sure any of us would be plenty pissed off about it.

I agree w/ Paul.
Properly, a GYM should nowadays have a sign over the mirrors that says,
"This is a GYM where people TRAIN. Where do you think you are?"
Truly, any self-respecting lifter would leave as soon as the pinkies took over, and wouldn't join a club like that to begin with. There are concessions made though; my wife and I train at a Fitness 19 because of the job market, for $9/mo. - but the owner is a great guy and looks the other way over grunting (but not primal yelling), chalk (if we clean it up), dropped db's, and gear bags along the wall. So I can survive quite well in this, by just being fairly respectable.
The chalk thing is new; I've seen some on the very clean floor and bars, so this could end soon due to uncaring members. For now, I'll clean it up to keep the priveledge...along with putting their damn weights away for them - unless I catch them, where I DO say something.

I consider physical training as close to a holy act as I will ever get. These globo gyms make a mockery of my gods (and curlers in the squat rack figuratively piss in my shrine) but it's their right to do so.
To quote Chris Rock talking about O.J.: "I'm not sayin' what the guy did was right...but I understand."
When I get the temptation to throw my weight around, I always stop and ask myself, "Would I behave this way if this person were larger and I thought they could harm me?" This induces shame if I've been being a bully. Great way to deescalate myself when I start to fly off the handle.

I wish I lived in Texas after seeing that video of Rip's gym on 70sbig. The average gym model is throw a bunch of machines down on the floor, gather some fools and slap some shirts that say "trainer' on them, and boom! it's a gym. No one trains anymore; they sculpt, they tone, they get "ripped."

The commercial gym population is so odd. You have to wonder, have any of these people actually played a sport in their lives? Where the hell do the former high school and college athletes train? I think maybe 1/25 people in an average gym know what theyre doing- it seems actual athletes are very underrepresented...

I'd add another sign to the squat rack with the picture of a squat on the front cover of SS, and the words "Note - you must be at least this parallel to use the squat rack."
Whatever stupid ass rules a place may have, knowingly paying these people and being there makes you the stupid ass. Throwing a goddamn fit about it just makes you a douchebag on top of it. Nothing like watching a grown man act like a fucking child to give me that warm feeling inside...."But they made me do it" , "I was mad" , Right?....nice excuses........Nothing like your inability to handle yourself be made perfectly clear to you and everyone else. Hopefully he sees this and does a little personality revamp....
