View Full Version : 350 max, form good or bad or just ok?

I got a wild hair and decided to max out tonight since I changed my diet. I switched over to eating more whole foods and canceled out the gomad for awhile to see what will happened. So here you go, I maxed out 340 just a few minutes before the 350 lb. I did it RAW, no gloves, shirt or belt. I also brought my grip in like Rip teaches and position my feet more underneath. It felt GREAT and and STRONG.

PS. sorry for the poor camara position and length, still new to the videoing and editing, I will try to do better and if someone could give me tips on how to improve that it would be great.

Why in the hell is everyone on this forum such a asshole? You are sorry? What the hell is that suppose to mean? I more respectful response would be "Hey man work on locking it out at the top and then rack it". I have been training my ass off for that bench and finally got it up, I am working on better form.

I was trying to be nice.

It was pretty obvious.

A weight which you can lockout, you can also easy hold for a moment at the top.

But you just threw your arms back as soon as your arms straightened out. This makes it unclear whether you even made the lockout or not.

Just be little more patient and finish the lift.

;)

That's more like it. Sorry if I came across as an ass it has been a rough day, lol. I will make sure that I lock it out, I was so excited to get it up. I did 340 right before that with ease, and said what the hell I got 350, and I did. I was using a more wide grip before and got slammed on that so I moved to a closer grip with the forearms vertical then angled. I fell much stronger now since I been practicing it.

I figure that was coming from someone, and if I was I would have locked it out at the top, lol

He did not put a oz on it. I had no gloves or chalk for GOOD grip, he was making sure that I would not kill myself if it slipped out of my hands. The gym I work out of does not allow chalk, and I have been training without gloves because I got slammed for wearing them.

If I recall I did not bounce. That is one thing I don't do. I will take a side view video next time, I do not know why I did not do that at first. I use my Storm to video and was unable to prop it up.

Dude, your bench looked just fine from what I could see. 1RMs are never the prettiest lifts and 350 is no damn joke. That's around my 1 RM on the squat. The very slight lack of lockout looked to be primarily happiness at finishing rather than an inability to lock it out. I'm impressed how you ground the lift out through the middle, too. Strong.

We're not all assholes here. In fact, as far as lifting sites go, this board is pretty damn tame. Stacey (nisora33) is a decent dude, too, if you give him a chance.

For video editing, Windows has a little free editor called Windows Movie Maker. If you have Windows 7, I believe you need to download it from Microsoft due to European anti-trust issues. You can use Movie Maker to clip the dead spaces at the beginning. Apple has iMovie that does the same. If you want to spend a few dollars, the consumer versions of Sony Vegas cannot be beaten.

Thanks on the comments on my bench. I am Nisora33 boss at work, I am the GM of the PT department and he is one my trainers, a dam good on too, but sometimes he has his head up ass.

Tom, you are the first guy to give OMG props for a SOLID 1rm bench. Most people on here apparently expect the form on a 1RM to look like the form on a warmup rep. On a 1RM if your form looks perfect and you're not getting slowed down or a stuck for a second during the rep, then you aren't lifting your 1RM.

Looked great to me. As said before, it's a 1rm and isn't going to look the prettiest.

I've done far uglier lifts at much lower weights than that, good lift.

However, I hate it when anyone uses just the top of their fingers to spot. If something goes wrong and all of a sudden you drop the weight, there is fuck all the spotter can do.

I went through the video, and he did indeed fully lockout the bar. Nice job.

350 pounds is no joke. That would have fucking pancaked me just trying to unrack it!

Looked pretty good to me, you are a strong dude! I learned quickly don't post 1RM attempts on this forum the form nazis will tear you a new one. When I threw up my 555DL vid I got flamed for having "terrible form", blah blah blah. Everyone seemed to ignore the fact that it was a 3xBW deadlift, a pretty important godamn milestone for me.

It's like how I hear it is at the SS certs. Skinny-fat weaklings criticize Andy Bolton's deadlift form, and then can't press 100 lbs.

milesdyson

obviously very strong but the fact that the guy touched the bar, while a very minor point, is worth bringing up, and it has nothing to do with "oh noes you got help" and everything to do with the guy needing to learn to spot.

the one thing i'd tell you form-wise is to get tighter everywhere before you begin the lift. your belly noticeably rises up after you unrack and start the descent. get your lower back arched tightly and take your deep breath before starting the descent and you might have made this more smoothly.

Way to have your bro curl the bar off of you for each rep brosef! His guns be gettin' SWOLE.

edit: Nice form btw! Wouldn't want to bring it too close to chest and risk elbow injuries. Unless you bounce it ofc.

So what the hell is going on in this thread, anyway?

We've got a video of a guy who, at a bodyweight of 200 lbs., is 1-rep maxing 350 lbs. Surprise, surprise, his form wasn't perfect. Big. Fucking. Deal.

I'm most amused at you arm-chair coaches at home who've made fun of this video for various, inconsequential reasons. I'd suspect that most of you laying those charges haven't accomplished anything like this in your training yet, or haven't been training for very long, or are just being pricks. Prove me wrong. He's putting himself out there as the subject of critique/derision, and you've done, what?

OMG,
Nice lift and strong work on getting through the mid way portion of the lift. If it looked pretty, it would not be a 1 rep max, and I would give you shit about it. Don't listen to the other douchbags on this forum, most of them are new and have no idea who Rip is and have most certainly not even read his books.

I was actually more referring to the video where someone took the top of OMG's lift and looped it 15 times. It looked like something you might see bros ACTUALLY do in the gym, but hey, feel free to flip out people. OMG's form is just fine.
