I went to a breakfast place a couple weekends ago and it got me thinking a list of places to get good food, in large quantities, for not much money would be pretty cool. Here's the place that got me thinking about it.

If any of you are ever in southeast MA and want a great place to get some breakfast this is the place to go. Highly recommend the Meat Lover's Omelet. It weighs in around 3 or 4 lbs. I would guess.

I found that, as a general rule, that the old-style diners--e.g., places that have meatloaf on the menu--usually offer food in large portions. We have at least a couple in Denver. And if I order an omelet on a Saturday morning, as I am sometimes wont to do, I may have to work to finish it all.

There's a latin place nearby that sells whole roasted chicken for cheaper than I can buy it raw from Safeway. Let's hear it for economies of scale!

Nor Cal has a medium size restaurant chain called Black Bear Diner. Huge portions for a good prize and the food is very good.

I'm a big fan of anywhere that you get a ton of food before your entrée comes.

If you're in Toronto, and want some good steak, the best is Barberians;

Their meat is expensive, but disgustingly good.

The best place near me for getting huge portions of good food is "The Beef House". It's about a 40 minute drive from me due east across the Indiana border. Great steaks, the best rolls EVER, and a great unlimited salad bar. Plus, you can't go wrong with a name like "The Beef House".

Pub 199 (Budd Lake, NJ) or Pub 517 (Hackettstown, NJ) are relatively the same. Good food, bar, cash only.

I recommend the 2-dozen steamers for an appetizer, then a 20oz steak + 2-dozen more steamers as the entree. Fitday.com says: 225.3g protein, 15.3g carbs, 116.6g fat, 2076 calories.

This place rules. They now sponsor the softball team I started back in '06. I've only been there once and didn't get to try the BBQ, but they made a damn good burger. I really miss Urbana.

On another note, there seems to a be a lot of people on here who either now or at one time lived in Champaign-Urbana. Anyone else?

Yeah, I wish I had tried it. But I was mourning the closing of the Embassy, and really wanted a good burger. I'm going to try to make a road trip out there this summer, and I'll definitely be having the BBQ. Also, I have never had wings that compare to Crane Alley's.

"Garbage" omelette...6 eggs, ham, bacon, scrapple, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, cheese...toast, grits gravy...all for 6 bucks.
