Just got off the phone with Rip.

He talked me into doing a 2x/wk linear progression for my back squat. Keep in mind I'm an experienced lifter but I haven't used a linear progression in years so my thinking is it'll probably work well for about 6 weeks.

My current bodyweight is 220Lbs and my max back squat is 150-155kgs, and yesterday I did a fairly hard set of 5 with 130kg.

I'll start with 120kg (3x5), and make 5kg jumps until I get to 130kgs, then use 2.5kg jumps every workout from there.

I compete in the 105kg (231Lb) class, so I don't wanna gain too much weight but I'll allow myself to get right up to about 230.

Details forthcoming....

Did Rip give you any dietary protocol for this? :)

Sounds great Charles. I hope to hear about it on Iron Radio. I love those podcasts you guys do. You and Phil (as well as Lonnie and Fortress) are great on those. I'm a big fan.

No, he just said something like "Don't be a pussy" and "Don't come crying to me..." or something like that

Is this going to be on tonight's podcast?

Also, can I get a preview of tonight's podcast? I won't be able to listen until Monday (please upload to itunes before then :D).

Haha. This will be interesting. How much are you weighting now (I can't remember)?

Went pretty well- hard but I wasn't in danger of missing anything. Will probably select 125 for Thursday. I'll keep you posted...

One of youse guys owes me a Coke! I was just thinking about the same thing based on your comment during your interview with the 70s Big crew. You said that a lot of people doing the undulating Russian volume (ahem) would probably do as well or better on linear progression (or something very similar).

If you're game to do it, then I'll have give it a lot more consideration after my next meet. Looking forward to your results!

Yeah I'm doing it officially- I'll do 2.5gk jumps per workout and see how far I can run with it...

Hi! I'm 5'10'' and a fairly flabby 105Kg. doing 127.5Kg for 3setsof5 today after resetting from 145Kg a couple of weeks ago.

I train by myself so it's kinda hard to gauge when I'm slacking or pushing myself too hard, hence why I'm so grateful for more experienced lifters posting their logs. Granted, I'm only 19 and have different training goals but I look forward to following your progress!

Good stuff khal- it's been many years since I've done a linear progression so my thinking is, I should be able to run with it for at least a month... if I can add 2.5kgs every session, that'd be 5kg's a week, and 20kg's in 4 weeks, which would have me doing 140kg for 3x5. At that point I'd be good for a 165-170 max which would be useful to my lifting career

I may of missed it, but are you using high bar or low bar?

Hi bar. This position works well for me at the moment, and I've got a few important meets coming up, so not interested in playing around with low bar at the moment. I might play with it sometime in the future however
