The review makes this sound bad... only issue I see is the HYYYUUUUUUUGGGGEE amount of salt. Fix - drink water baby. Otherwise, looks like a protein and fat snack fit for heavy lifters. Bring it on!

Well, the inclusion of bacon and cheese means that I'll be sure to swing by KFC to try this out. There's lots of things in this world that could be improved with that duo. Even better: April 12 is one of my workout days.

Don't eat bacon, is this the first time KFC sold bacon?

One person in the thread in the link wrote "The government needs to step in and regulate this." I don't think they were kidding. People who think things like this need to be put down like the statist meddling dogs they are.
The more "social" medical care gets, the more meddlers like this are going to believe they can tell you what to do with your body. It won't be long before the busybodies are outlawing squats because "they ruin knees and create an unnecessary need for knee surgery." Just wait.

That looks delicious and I hope it's real.
I bet the person who said the government needs to regulate this sort of thing is skinny-fat and thinks hipster kids are the pinnacle of physical fitness.

While I agree that in general, the amount of government intervention/regulation can get out of hand, the current financial situation is largely a result of the banks largely being unregulated with respect to credit and simply going for the biggest possible profit - and we are all dealing with the consequence.
In respect to medical, we can, to some extent, see a similar issue with the major drug manufacturers ---- got a problem? Hey, I got a pill for that!!
While I don't want the government to tell me how to handle all of my health issues, it is pretty obvious (to me at least) that the situation is not black and white, but is rather in shades of gray.

Why would any bank motivated by profit alone knowingly make irreresponsible lending decisions?

Uh, gee, overwhelming greed leads directly to ..... STUPIDITY
Seriously though, they did the same due diligence banks have always done with lending applications, but took significantly more and more risk on, loaning $ to people who simply were poor risks. IMO, it was largely because there was a creep in the line banks were willing to cross with respect to risk. So what initially looks like just a little more risk and not necessarily irresponsible, compounds itself over time and becomes almost moronic in nature.
But hey, I still want a damn sandwich!!!

Unregulated banks led to the financial meltdown? Really? It's that simple huh. Well good thing we found the SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE; now we just have to regulate it and BAM, PROBLEM SOLVED! Because it worked so well in Japan and France!! Bailouts and regulation solved all of Japan's problems after their real-estate crash. And France hasn't had any huge bouts of corruption with there regulated banking! Oh wait....shit....
Nevermind GSE's like fannie/freddie that inflated the market via artificially redirecting funds to real estate or the Fed with it's direct control over interest rates or the symboitic relationship in general between the financial machine and the politicians or....

Sorry for the tongue-lashing. I'm just really tired of this hindsight is 20-20 bullshit thinking. I don't know why people feel the need to distill everything to some simple solution after a quick analysis...especially something as crazy and stochastic as macroeconomics or politco-strategic interactions. *shrugs* Or maybe it's just cuz my boss is pissing me off today, my bad.
Yeah, I'm getting pretty excited for the sandwhich. I"ll be out of the country during it's release but I will be eagerly awaitng my return to the states.

I'm not sure I believe the calorie information they are giving:
KFC Original RecipeŽ Double Down
540cal
32g fat
1380mg sodium
But if you do the math:
2 KFC Chicken Breasts
740cal
38g fat
2290mg sodium
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/foods-from-kfc/6498/2
2 slices bacon
82.6cal
6.2g fat
176mg sodium
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/pork-products/7356/2
2 slices cheese
208cal
17g fat
300mg sodium
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/dairy-and-egg-products/24/2
Sauce
130 cal
14g fat
120mg sodium
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/foods-from-kfc/6509/2
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/foods-from-kfc/6510/2
For a total of:
1160 calories
107.2g fat
4266mg sodium
* The sauce calculation is messed up so I adjusted it based on the macronutrients...

Sorry dude, you've been had by anti-obama propaganda. All of us up here in Canada watch you crazies rally against helping sick people and we shake our heads. BTW, nobody stands at my local KFC measuring your bodyfat and kicking you out if you want to order a bucket of fried chicken.

I think you nailed it there, I think it's going to be on the size level of a mcdonalds double cheeseburger. I can't see it being a full sized burger, then it would have to be north of 1000 calories...unless they use white meat and very little of the breading.
Will be interesting to see, I hope we get it in canada soon!

This idea is not an illogical one. Once the government has a hand in socializing costs, there is a more legitimate reason to expand government influence over these kinds of things. Helmet laws, seatbelt laws-- these things have been passed absent such a justification, but if the government is footing the hospital bills, then they now have a legitimate interest in minimizing costs.
There is also a push in this country by some Democrats to do things like "ban" or tax sugary drinks because of the obesity epidemic. Such legislation has more of a solid footing, again, if the government now has a fiscal interest in modifying our eating habits.
At the end of the day, I think universal health care is something the US needs to adopt. The free market just wasn't doing its job. It is a pretty classic third-party flaw in free market assumptions when it comes right down to it. But I do worry that we can go too far down this road and end up with a system that is even worse, and one that unfairly limits people's ability to make decisions. Let's hope our leaders exhibit some wisdom in implementing this. Sigh. This is probably not going to happen.

uhm... bandwagon vote-grabbing? What the fuck else do politicians do? They look like they give a shit based on the greatest whining and bitching. New York banned trans fat deep frying long before Obama was in office... The average american waist size (Canadian, too) shows that people don't care to educate themselves on not becoming fat pieces of shit and they feel they need something to blame. There's actually a lobby group out there trying to get Ronald out of McD's advertising because that skinny coked-out clown teaches children that big macs are fun. Truth is, their parents show them this. It has nothing to do with healthcare, but it sure makes a great anti-obama argument.

Canada isn't some promised land of healthcare either. Btw the government in Canada just took away your right to purchase legally and smoke flavoured cigars in singles, and soon will do away with the packaged type eventually. stop talking out your ass.

Well, I ate one of these for lunch today. It was surprisingly tasty! All things considered I could do without the sauce on it. It was some sort of cross between mayo and onion blossom dipping sauce. Fine for what it was, but my personal preference would be some BBQ sauce. It had just enough cheese and bacon on it to add some nice flavor. Got the fried version this time, next time I'll try the grilled! Now, pass me some of that diet water...

Tried the grilled version myself PWO. It was delicious, but I refuse to drink soda and eat fries (a better insulin spike can be obtained from something else), and it cost 4 bucks by itself. Fuck that, I could get more calories and protein out of a gallon of milk for a buck less

Hmmm....
Well, I had one of these today, too. My fictitious 9 year old sister could've eaten one. It wasn't filling at all. I second the "mcdouble between 2 double downs." And expensive! $8 for the combo...

There's no way that sandwich wouldn't have something to spike insulin.. that BBQ sauce would certainly do it.

I know, I know... It was just a poke at you saying "insulin spike" and "grilled" without making fun of someone else for saying it. Those words rarely show up in my vocabulary. They are usually replaced by "gravy" and "fried." You know, stuff like that. Like this:
I'm sipping on coffee because of the "insulin spike" from the fried Double Down, mashed taters-n-gravy, and Pepsi I had for lunch.

I haven't had one yet, but I will. I'm not too impressed with it. Fewer calories and more salt than my usual Wendy's Double Bacon Deluxe. I don't know the protein count off-hand, but the burger has 90g.
Edit - i just read the comments on that news site... pretty uneducated bunch of knee-jerkers. This thing isn't THAT bad... 500 cals? If you eat 3 meals/day and you don't eat 500 cals at each of them you are by definition anorexic.
