View Full Version : Mmmmm Milk
Hey guys,
Trying to get more calories, I admit I have been slacking. Just got back into SS and want to do things optimally this time. I obviously want to do GOMAD, but being in school all day how can I make this happen? IF a find a big enough cooler could that keep it from going sour? I rather drink it evenly throughout the day. Also, any ideas on solid foods?
Thanks again,
Dave
Unless you carry around a cooler with you, or a bunch of thermoses, you won't be able to drink the milk evenly throughout the day. What I did:
- Drink 1L of milk with/after breakfast
- Take 1L of milk in a thermos to school with you and make sure it's finished before you go home (I always drank mine immediately after lunch)
- Drink 1L of milk with/after dinner
- Drink 1L of milk before bed
If you use a thermos or waterbottle, make sure to wash it every day. My nalgene is unusable now due to its rancid smell, and this happened because I only washed it once or twice a week.

When I was on GOMAD, the milk would always make me get up in the middle of the night to piss. Since I was up, I would have a couple glasses of milk.

Now that is time management.

I am usually away all day, so at best the earliest start I get on a gallon is 7 or 8pm. I am usually awake till 2, and this includes a normal dinner. You just have to drink until you are in pain and keep going. I'm not trying to sound HaRdCoRe, but that's just how you have to do it. Eating is the hardest part

How warm is it where you live?
If it is fairly cool you may be surprised at how long milk lasts unchilled.
Dirty Jersey lol, fairly decent weather, but since summer is around the corner I don't think the milk will last long

Unfortunately I have to dress and walk outside to the latrine here. I probably look like a zombie when I do this. I've just tried to concentrate as much as I can in the early part of the day (I'm only doing about 1/2 to 3/4 GOMAD)
I still end up outside once or twice a night.
Also, the only milk here comes in 8oz boxes and is reconstituted.
Oh well.

Being an Ex-Milkman I can tell you guys in confidence and from experience that a gallon of milk will last 3-4 hours (in the shade) outside of a refrigerator. As long as the container is sweating the milk will still be ok to drink. After 3-4 hours it would be wise to pop it back into a refrigerator, and to finish that gallon within the same day.
For you guys in school, store it in your locker wrapped in a heavy towel and it should last all of the school day. The towel will act as an insulator and trap the coolness in.

I take a couple pints of milk with me to work. I had to go to a customer's place all day and they had no fridge at their shop. I left the milk in the shade outside (about 15*c) and it was fine to drink at 3pm. Just because milk is warm doesn't mean it has gone bad.

Welcome. You will now be like a border-line celebrity here. :)
And I agree. I routinely drank milk that had been outside a fridge all day. Every day.

haha, thanks for the welcome! Kind of a strange place for my first post, but it did used to be my bag.
Oh forgot to mention, the higher the fat content the longer it will last. (ie. whole, 2%, 1% then skim)

True that... we have 10% cream by the office coffee machine, it never goes in the fridge through the day. We actually keep it in the cupboard, give it a shake and open the seal on top then put it on the counter for use all day. At the end of the day it goes in the fridge.
Milkman - how does it stay good in the cupboard for weeks before we open it?

^^It stays good b/c of only the 10% creme...the rest are preservatives, stabilizers ect. and also due to such a small amount. Next time you go out to a diner of sorts look on the table and see if they have a small dish w/ half and half in it. If you do and use it, you will sometimes see that it has started to clabber (dairy term).. or thicken by the particles floating around in the coffee or tea..don't use it. It will also happen w/ non-dairy cremer..that is the stabilizers starting to break down.

I'd like to point out, that John in his Q&A board pointet out, that you should be done with the milk by late afternoon to minimize the fat accumulation. Although I think that a liter of milk would be great as POW-meal.
