Hello Charles,

Thanks for this Q&A section. I read it frequently and find it quite informative.

I have what may be a strange deadlift grip issue. I'm a dude, but have a very wide carrying angle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elbow#Carrying_angle So on my heavy DL sets, when I go to switch grip, my grip goes MUCH wider than double overhand on the supinated hand. To avoid an unbalanced lift, I have to widen the other (pronated) hand out too. I would say this makes my grip overall 6-7 inches wider. This turns it almost into a snatch-grip DL, and I'm not interested in the extra ROM. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get around this?

Thanks,
Ham

Rip would recommend immediate bilateral elbow surgery, but I'm thinking hook grip

i've found that letting the shoulders roll forward a bit helps to keep the supinated arm in. i struggled with this for a while until i made the realization messing around with round backed deadlifting, which turned out to be a bust. i was actually strapping my heaviest deadlifts instead of using a mixed grip because of it, but now i use the mixed grip at the same width as double overhand. here's a picture of my "carrying angle" which i took when i first started experiencing the pain.

And for crap's sakes, quit drinking Yuban and get some real coffee. That stuff will take pounds off all your lifts, no lie.
