Hey Charles:

So, older (40y/o, 213#) lifter here. Finished up my linear progression (I modified it to allow for some conditioning and had a limit on weight I would allow, so I finished earlier than I would have given unlimited recovery (weight and sleep) resources.

I've transitioned as of this week to a modified TM routine (again, adding some conditioning - 2-3x per week, staying away from upcoming heavy stuff).

Also, thanks to Rip's and your advice, I am attending Mike Burgener's Oly Seminar this fall (looks like Sage will be the one teaching).

In preps for shifting to an Oly emphasis, I am adding in some Oly work on light days (3-5 sets of 3, rotating between OHS, Full Cleans, Sn/PS, C&J). I'm going to use Bill Starr's methodology of "The Drill" - PS/OHS/Sn or PC/FS/C as I work up here. I suspect early that this will be ok (maybe until the end of summer even) allowing me to get my squat into the mid 3's before I really transition more seriously to Oly. Thoughts on the plan? Volume concerns?

Thanks. Greg.

What's TM?

OK aside from that, if you're a beginner at O lifts, you should not try to use them to deliver a training effect- if you do, you'll be tempted to use more weight than the learning curve would dictate. My solution is to start each workout with a timed (30 minutes?) O-lift practice, where you use weights that are heavy enough to provide the feedback you need, but not so heavy as to cause you to "do whatever it takes" to make your lifts. Gradually, over time, your weights will increase, and eventually you can use O lifts for strength/power development.

After the timed O-lift practice, do your more familiar strength lifts, such as the SS program
