Got a bit of a problem at the moment.

Started to eat properly recently..

Weight went up from 85kg to 90kg in like 2 weeks.

Not hugely fat, although have increased in BF %.

Most of it might be food in transit in my body methinks.

I'm just not extreting as much food as I'm taking in,, and recently my appetite has gone down a lot.. I'm guessing that's my bodies way of telling me not to eat so much until I clear out my bowels..

Go to the toilet like 3-4 times a day.. But only excrete a small handful..

Diet not o high in fibre so that may be a tell tale sign..

I do have a few slices of brown bread a day, and a few juice.. But GOMAD + 4 high protein meals a day, doesn't leave me with much desire to stuff anything 0 calorie but micro-nutrient full foods like leafy greens..

Should I take fibre supplements. Or should brown bread/oats/weetabix etc shoud be enough to sort my bowels..

Anyone else struck funny by that statement? I have a mental image of Tiger actually shitting in his hand.

As far as a solution to you problem; eat more fiber and hydrate. Fiber pills are relatively cheap but not nearly as cheap as veggies, and they don't have all those delicious micronutrients and whatnot. Psyllium husk stuff is touted to get things going proper, but I've never tried it myself. I only had a "stoppage" once in my life and I hope to never have it again. Going to the pharmacy to pickup stool softener while being constipated is not cool.

It's funny, we were just having this discussion about some 3rd world countries where they reserve the right hand for greeting and the left hand for, you know what when I saw this post.

I will put in my vote for veggies over fiber supplementation.

shit still having problems.

(no pun intended)..

My stools are softy almost muhy, dark and are a pain in the ass to eject [again no pun intended].

I ate plenty of wholemeal bread, weetabix and a can of kidney beans, all were supposed to be full of fibre, but the prob;ems hasn't sorted itself.

The congestion is somewhere in my bowels, and I'm starting to get stomach pains cos food isn't going through the system properly.

I put my feet up on the toilet seat and shat like they do in poor countries in a very very low squat position, it seems to forcd the bowels to squueze tight and forces the stools out.. And got a bit of luck this way.

But I just hope this clears out soon, cos I don't think I'd be training until this problem gets sorted cos I cant eat properly atm.

Don't stop training, combine the two! Set up a power rack around your toilet and let your 3x5 sort your bowels out. Squats fix everything!!

I've never done one myself, but someone I know who suffers from severe and chronic constipation does at least one a month and swears by them.

I refer, of course, to enemas.

After that, you can go back to eating normally with a little more fibre.

If even the enema doesn't sort it out, I would recommend you see a gastroenterologist quick-smart.

Overdoing the fiber can cause problems too, especially when you go from not enough to too much. A leafy green salad tossed in olive oil works really well, something about the oil and fiber combination seems more effective than just adding in carby fiber-rich foods. Also try having a cup of coffee in the morning.

What part of "eat vegetables" do you not understand?

I've had the misfortune of seeing this in person. Makes you lose your faith in humanity a bit, doesn't it?

Psyllium husk powder works great. So would just doing the obvious and eating some vegetables, it really isn't hard to put down some salad with your meat. If none of that is appealing you can try a PEG laxative, Miralax is an OTC option. I promise you won't be constipated after you pursue that avenue. You also won't mind eating salad.

I've had some of that lately. It seems that the 3 liters of milk/day makes my shit a lot harder than usual, which manifests as the feeling of defecating granite when I go to the toilet (sorry for the unhappy thoughts that this mental image might have caused). What helped a little was taking ~500mg of NAC, I don't quite know why. Probably the fact that you have mucus in your bowels and NAC fluidifies mucus has something to do with it.

However, I think oatmeal or any other kind of fiber would probably be a better choice.

I second this. I've used them personally.

All they do is provide the urge to go in the colon, plus provide a little lubrication. Nothing magic to it.

You will have to eat a more balance diet with lots of veggies moving forward.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have access to toilet paper and running water.

And whatever the case, at least it's better than using the same hand for both tasks ;)

Here's my secret to regular, healthy bowel movements.

My second breakfast ever morning, around 10 AM consists of:

- 1 cup Chobani Greek Yogurt
- 1 cup of steel-cut oats
- 1/2 cup strawberries
- 1/2 cup blueberries

Mix the above together in a bowl. The mixture will reach the consistency of concrete. Then, add whole milk. Add as much as you want.

About an hour or so later, I'll snack on a cup of almonds before I eat my first lunch at 1.

Then, with my first lunch, second lunch, and first dinner, at 1PM, 3PM and 6PM respectively, I include spinach salads, drenched in olive oil with each of those meals. And included in the salad, are a handful of peeled baby carrots with each.

I get good fiber from the nuts, carrots and oats. BUT the REAL good stuff comes from the cultures in the Greek Yogurt ;-) My BM's operate like clockwork, and taking a shit, on this eating plan, is always a pleasant experience. Without getting too graphic, it always hits the water before it's done leaving my body, it never hurts, and it's never hard to wipe up after. I'm in and out of the bathroom in 3 minutes tops.

Now, if I drink too much beer, that throws the whole thing out of whack. So I have to make sure to drink in moderation, or, eat extra yogurt the next day ;-)
