I've been putting off buying weightlifting shoes for the last....since ive been lifting mainly due to being extremely tight and extremely unemployed, resorting to lifting barefoot. However I finally got pulled up over 'health and safety' in the gym today and its gave me the drive to actually grow a pair and buy a pair

Two types i'm looking at

http://www.pullum-sports.co.uk/clothing-and-shoes/shoes/do-win-weightlifting-shoes/prod_534.html

Standard Do-wins, drawn more toward this as these tend to be the more established by all what ive read here and elsewhere

and

Simply as they are cheaper.

Probably gonna go with the do wins though, just need a confirmation or alternatively another better choice

(PS I'm in the UK if you haven't guessed)

thanks guys

I'd spend the extra $ (or whatever the symbol for your kind of money is, I can't find it on my keyboard) for the do-wins.

You know that Sugar Rays also sells the Adidas Iron Works IIIs? I was going to get them but I have wide feet and heard they're better for people with normal to narrower feet. I got the Pendlay Do-Wins as they're wider.

I would like to note that those ADIDAS EXTERO II shoes are not definitely weightlifting shoes. They are more likely wrestling shoes that got mistaken for weightlifting shoes. Given the two choices I would go with the Do-Win's, but that's not much of a choice. I have always liked the lower heel Adidas shoes, I can't comment on Pendlay's (never owned a pair). I would splurge on the Adidas' or the Pendlay's considering the investment is minuscule in the context of the time the shoes would be used.

The Pendlay shoes are hideous though. I'm not a fan of gloss, and I didn't realise how glossy they were until I got them.

I got Pendlays, too. I don't think they look TOO bad, although I got the charcoal gray, which is maybe more subtle than, say, gloss red. I actually feel kind of styley in mine, which is important, in my garage, alone.

Me: "Hey there, handsome. Sweet kicks."
Me: "You talkin' to me? You must be talkin' to me, I don't see anyone else here."
Me: "No, you're talking to yourself, you idiot. Now quit staring at your shoes and get back under the bar!"

Yeah, same; I got the grey. Still, my friends have got the Iron Work IIs and IIIs. Those look just like normal shoes almost.

Hi Alyion.

My friend has the 65 quid Do-Wins and I recently bought the Ironwork IIIs for 90 quid off Sugarrays. I previously lifted in Sambas which eventually ripped.

First, the Do-Wins are a nice shoe. I think you'll be happy with them. There is a part of me that wishes I had saved the money and bought them rather than the Ironworks, as the narrowness of mine gives me cramp in the side of my right foot. The Do-Wins are solid, wider than the Ironwork IIIs, and have two straps (perhaps adding a little stability, who knows). Unfortunately, my friend is several sizes smaller than I, so it's very difficult to give a direct comparison.

Both pairs of shoes feel a lot more secure than my old Sambas. For this alone they're worth the money. The heel also makes them much more pleasant to do the Olympic lifts in front squats in. I am less concerned about this as I tend to lean towards powerlifting, whereas my friend who likes to do the o-lifts says he'd never go back.

It is worth noting that the heel changes the dynamics of the back squat somewhat. It seems more quad dominant now, which has been a little difficult for me to adapt to. It also seems to put more stress on the knees, although it could be that I am failing to sit back as much as I could. Having your feet strapped to a piece of wood really does help you feel more confident about stability, however there are many powerlifters far stronger than I who squat in Chuck Taylors / Converse All Stars, with a very small sole.

If I were you, I would be choosing between the Do-Wins, the Do-Win Pendlay 2010s, and the Chuck Taylors. Enjoy whichever pair you go with.

I've lifted in lots of footwear and since others have commented on that specific choice, I'll toss my more general two cents in. From worst to best:

1.) Running shoes/trainers - They're squishy as all hell and as a consequence not super stable. They're also fairly narrow. I wouldn't do it.
2.) Bare-footed - I still do this sometimes. There's no squishiness built in, but the lack of a sole means your foot is only as stable as your foot actually is.
3.) Old Do-Wins - Elevated heel, lets you strap in tight, wider footprint for extra stability, no compression. A little bit TOO much heel for my dimensions when it comes to power clean and deadlift starting position.
4.) Rogue Do-Win - Pretty much perfect. All the benefit of the lifting shoe without the slide forward on a lift that starts at the floor on account of slightly less heel elevation. Hope to have these for many more years. Bonus upside: they look good enough that you can wear them into the store to buy food on the way home from the gym in a pinch.

If you are buying shoes to lift in, get weightlifting shoes with a heel and with straps to secure your foot. Whether it's adidas, Do-win, Rogues, or the new Rip shoe... pick something made for lifting. They're all better than Chuck Taylors and they'll hold up forever.

Thanks for everything guys, I went with the do-wins. I realise its gonna be highly individual really and its not gonna be the last pair i'll ever own so I might as well start getting use to em now

Thanks again.
