Looks like I'll be in the USAPL U.S. Open after all.
I emailed the state chair Mr. Keller to explain why I wouldn't be attending. He convinced me to come on down anyway so he and some of others could take a look at my programming and give me some advice.
Truth is that I really, really want to compete. My bench is cruising along and I would like very much to register a more respectable official BP while I'm still in the 82.5, something a bit closer to 1.5x bodyweight.
My favorite competition lift, however, is the squat followed closely by the deadlift. But I've only squatted and pulled once in the past two weeks and was planning another week off of both to recover from all the overreaching I did. My knees are feeling much, much better thanks to the rest and I can go through the squat motions, but I'm not sure I should do more than a token attempt in the squat. I suppose I'll have to see how I feel on the actual competition day when I warm up.
The pull I feel I could do as this it requires a lot less knee flexion, thus less stress on the knees and it's the lift that benefits most from long periods of not being trained. The best I can do for the squat right now is walk out big weights just to get used to the feeling of the bar on my back. Getting unused to the weight seems to be what causes the "oh shit this is heavy I can't lift this" panic response that shuts down the squat.
