At what point does microloading as a novice stop making sense?

Currently, I am making progress at 1# a week on my press. That seems reasonable. I have also started microloading my squats at 3# twice a week. Which I think is okay also, but at what point would it be better to switch to a intermediate program even if I was still making workout to workout progress in the squat? If I was going up 1# twice per week would that still make sense?

I can load as light as 1/2# jumps with the plates I have.

    Thanks,

    Matt

The simplest iteration of the intermediate squat programming has you making a 5lb. increase every week. Do the math.
